Maroof had intended to retire from international cricket after becoming a father. However, as fate would have it, she is now leading Pakistan at the World Cup, and the Indian players' willingness to spend time with Maroof's kid was a wonderful gesture.
On March 6, 2022, India's women's team crushed Pakistan by 107 runs in their ICC Women's World Cup 2022 tournament opener at the Bay Oval in Mount Manganui. This was India's 11th straight ODI victory over Pakistan.
Mithali Raj won the toss and elected to bat first in the match. The Pakistani squad, led by Bismah Maroof, came close to pulling off an upset when they reduced the opposition to 114-6 in the 34th over. This despite Smriti Mandhana's 52 and Richa Ghosh's 20-odd.
The Indian side then added 122 runs for the seventh wicket, pushing them to a manageable total of 244/7 in 50 overs, thanks to Pooja Vastrakar (67) and Sneh Rana (53*). Nida Dar and Nashra Sandhu both took two wickets, while the rest of the bowling unit each took one wicket. As Pakistan was swept out for 137 with seven overs remaining in their innings, Indian seamers kept it tight upfront and spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad (4-31) devastated the middle order. Only Sidra Ameen (30) and Diana Baig (24) scored more than 20 runs as Indian bowlers wreaked havoc on the Pakistani batsmen.
Jhulan Goswami (2/26) and Sneh Rana (2/27) also played significant roles in India's 107-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in the Women's World Cup opener.
