The Editor,

The Hindustan Times,

New Delhi

Sir,

I would like to draw your attention towards the impact of television programmes on people's lives.

Television may be both a blessing and a burden. It is a boon in that it provides both educational and recreational opportunities. It quickly provides you with the most up-to-date information on all events occurring in the farthest reaches of the globe. It also puts the perspectives of many groups of people on the most pressing issues of the day in front of you. It also offers continuous entertainment at all times of the day. It offers good company to everyone, young and elderly alike.

Despite all of its benefits, the television is still referred to as an idiot box. The majority of the shows on television are little more than a horrible exhibition of sex, fashion, movies, and ads. People are misled by eye-catching advertisements into impulsive and rash expenditure. Similarly, sex films and pornographic shows degrade the morality of young and impressionable boys and girls, leading them astray. Television watchers remain glued to their screens for long periods of time, wasting valuable time. Students often neglect their schoolwork, while women neglect their domestic responsibilities. In fact, watching television puts your entire life into disarray.

Yours faithfully,

Rahul/Rohini
