You can download a masked Aadhaar from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which adds an extra layer of security. In your downloaded e-Aadhaar, a masked Aadhaar masks your Aadhaar number and only reveals the last four digits of your Aadhaar number. The first eight digits of the number are hidden.
"Masked Aadhaar option allows you to mask your Aadhaar number in your downloaded e-Aadhaar," according to the UIDAI website. Masked Aadhaar numbers are created by substituting the first eight digits of the Aadhaar number with characters such as "xxxx-xxxx," leaving only the last four digits visible."

On Sunday, the UIDAI released a statement advising individuals not to share their Aadhaar cards with anyone since they could be misused. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) eventually made another formal statement to retract the declaration after it was misconstrued. "It was supplied by them in the context of an attempt to misuse a photoshopped Aadhaar card," the source said. The public was urged not to give a photocopy of their Aadhaar with any institution since it could be exploited, according to the release. A masked Aadhaar, which only shows the last four digits of the Aadhaar number, can also be utilised," Meity said in the statement.
