There was even more drama at the Barsapara Stadium. The play was suspended for the second time in the game during the South African innings due to a power outage. Before the power was restored, the game had to be interrupted due to the unexpected loss of the floodlights, and India and South Africa continued playing. Floodlight malfunctions are not new. It infamously occurred in 2008 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata during an IPL game.
In terms of the game itself, India, who was asked to bat, put up an electrifying batting performance on route to scoring 237/3. Suryakumar Yadav was the hero of the innings, scoring a fifty off just 18 balls and smashing 61 off 22 balls with five fours and five sixes. This, combined with contributions from Rohit Sharma (43), KL Rahul (57), and Virat Kohli (49), enabled India set a lofty goal for South Africa to tie the series.
