A PAN (Permanent Account Number) card is a unique ten-digit alphanumeric code issued by the Income Tax Department of India to individuals, businesses, and other entities. The PAN card serves as a unique identification number and is used for financial transactions such as filing tax returns, opening bank accounts, and investing in securities.
The PAN card contains information such as the PAN number, the name of the cardholder, their father's name, date of birth, and photograph. It also contains a magnetic strip that stores additional information.
To link your PAN (Permanent Account Number) with Aadhaar (Unique Identity Number) by SMS, follow these steps:
- Open the messaging app on your mobile phone.
- Type a message in the following format: UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar number><SPACE><10 digit PAN number>
- For example, if your Aadhaar number is 123456789012 and your PAN number is ABCDE1234F, your message should look like this: UIDPAN 123456789012 ABCDE1234F
- Send the message to either 567678 or 56161.
- Once the message is sent, you will receive a confirmation message that your Aadhaar and PAN have been successfully linked.
Note: You must ensure that your name, date of birth, and gender as per your Aadhaar card are correctly mentioned in your PAN database. If there is any mismatch, you will not be able to link your Aadhaar and PAN via SMS. In that case, you will need to link your Aadhaar and PAN through the Income Tax Department's e-filing portal or through physical submission of the application form to your nearest PAN service center
